Today we began writing in our "PreK Journals." Every week we are going to write about a new topic. Today we reviewed Mat Man and practiced drawing a person. We learned that we can add details to our pictures to make them more exciting.
We practiced writing about our pictures. We know that we need to write about what is in our picture, so the writing makes sense. We listened to the sounds in words, and then wrote the letters that we heard. We did a fantastic job!!
Ask your child about how we use crayons for coloring, and pencils for writing :)
To encourage writing at home with your child:
-After they draw a picture, ask them to write about it.
-Encourage any form of writing (scribbles, shapes, letter-like shapes, and/or letters).
-Even if the letter they are writing is not in the word, encourage them to write it. Any time they are writing letters, they are practicing and LEARNING :)
Beginning the process of learning how to write is an exciting time for prekindergarten students, but it can also be challenging and cause frustration. It's important to encourage any type of writing that young children are doing, so they begin to love it!
