Art Center – opportunities for children to work with different media, such as paint, sponges, chalk, pencils, crayons, scissors, paste, play dough, clay, etc.
Block Center- blocks become the elements for different types of learning – it improves children’s visual perceptual, hand-eye coordination and motor skills
Dramatic Play Center- as children act out play themes, they learn to share ideas, make group decisions, and cooperate with each other – it provides opportunities for children to practice language and literacy skills, and to enhance cognitive development
Listening Center – provides essential experiences that promote language and literacy development – children listen to “book language” as stories are read, or follow along with the illustrations or text as they listen to the story being read, they can listen to music as well.
Math Center – has a wide variety of manipulatives where children can sort, classify, order, count, compare, and graph collections – they touch and move things as they relate a sense of number to the objects.
Reading Center – children choose among a wide variety of literary experiences and discuss stories and information with each other from their own reading selections – they develop literary knowledge and skills.
Sand and Water Center – children can be creative or scientific as they explore the sand or water and accompanying theme related props – it allows children the opportunities to explore qualities of liquid and characteristics of a pourable solid, they experiment with cause and effect, refine problem-solving skills, and explore basic math concepts, such as volume, measuring and comparing.
Science Center – hands-on experience with real objects from nature such as rocks, fossils, and leaves, they learn to observe and classify, and with simple experiments children learn how to measure, infer information, prediction and communication.
Writing Center – where children use drawing, scribbling, or developmental spelling to express themselves – several types of paper, variety of writing utensils, and other items that children can use in the process of creating books, stories, poems, cards, invitations etc.
